WHAT IS MENTORSHIP?

Mentorship is a supportive, one-on-one relationship with another member actively engaged in the Refuge Recovery program. Most simply, mentors are other members of

the Refuge Recovery community, freely sharing their own experience, guiding us

through the inventories and showing us how to live the Refuge Recovery program.

Refuge Recovery mentors help us to understand reality and show us how to respond with compassion. They urge us to continue on the path of recovery when it gets difficult and we want to give up. Our mentors are the sounding boards we use as we work towards new insights and healing. Our mentors are people we can get, and stay honest with, creating the personal accountability and integrity at the heart of recovery.  (from the refuge recovery website)

PAMPLET FOR PROCESS ADDICTION   static1.squarespace.com/static/5f5fa3b58f89c03496c3c38e/t/604c19e2cb82e80e6ebc6d4b/1615600099228/Process-Addiction-a.pdf

Addiction is the repetitive process of habitually, satisfying, cravings to avoid, change, or control the seemingly unbearable conditions of the present moment. This process of craving an indulgence provide short-term relief because there’s long-term harm. It is almost always a source of suffering for both the addict, and those who care about the addict.

Recovery is a process of healing, the underlying conditions that lead to addiction. It is establishing and maintaining the practice of abstaining from satisfying the cravings for the substances and behaviors that we have become addicted to. Recovery is also the ability to inhabit the conditions of the present reality, whether pleasant or unpleasant.
